Assembly Guide for A498x stepper drivers
This guide handles both the A4983 and A4988 stepper driver carriers, therefore called A948x.
Please have the RAMPS PCB soldered before following this chapter.

Unpack the driver. |
Cut the pin strip in half, so you get 2x 8pins each |
Insert the two pin strips parallel into the female headers of the ramps board. Make sure the shorter side looks out on the top. Place the A498x PCB onto the strips. Make sure all pins match the corresponding holes. Important: When inserting the A498x PCB, make sure the silkscreen on the RAMPS PCB matches with the silkscreen of the A498x driver. Plugging it in or leaving it plugged in and powering the RAMPS up will kill the A498x driver when inserted the wrong way. |
Solder all 16 pins to the PCB |
| Repeat for all drivers. | |
| Heatsinks |
Since Shapercube 2.1, the kit is delivered with Heatsinks. |
Find the heatsinks. Along with the heatsinks, there is a piece of special thermal conductive double-sided tape. Cut the tape in 4 pieces which match the flat surface of the heatsinks. |
On the tape pieces, remove the protective tape of one side then push it to the flat surface of heatsink. Note that the colour of the tape may differ. |
Remove the protective tape from the other side of the tape piece and push the heasink to the chip. Important: Make sure that the heatsink does not touch any other component. |
| Repeat for all drivers. | |
