  • Installing the Extruder

    Preparing the extruder barrel

The extruder will come like this:

The black wires are the heater wires, the white ones are the thermistor wires.

Warning: Don't pull on any of those wires!

Now, prepare this large washer. It will take the stress of the PEEK insulator.

Mount two M5x25 large nuts using two M5x16 bolts.

Loosely mount the extruder barrel on it using two M6 nuts.

Screw in the PEEK insulator onto the heater barrel.

    Mount the extruder barrel

Add the large aluminium plate with 4 holes on the sides. Tighten it using two M5x16 bolts.

Mount it to the X toolhead holder using 4 M5x10 bolts.

Note: Adjust the height of the PEEK insualtor using the M6 nuts if neccessary

Now, adjust the height of the PEEK insulator using the M6 bolts. Ensure that the PEEK is on the flat surface of the part above. Then tighten the M6 bolts

    Mount the drive mechanism

Before mounting the extruder, put a piece of filament through it so you can make sure the extruder sits on straight. Mount it with at least two M5 square nuts and use a bolt on each long hole marked yellow.

    Electrical connections

Important: Do not pull on any wire of the motor or extruder!

Get the rest of the 4-pin cable, strip the ends. Place a bit of solder on every end. Add 4 pieces of shrink wrap before soldering then to another wire.

Solder two strands to the DC motor. On the other end of the cable, those strands have to be inserted into the "Motor 1" terminal on the DC PWM Driver. Insert the + (red wire from the motor) on the left, - (black wire from the motor) right next to it. If you reverse the polarity here, the motor will run backwards.

Next, solder the black wires from the heater element to the remaining two wires. Insert those into the "PWM 1" terminals on the DC PWM Driver. Origentation does not matter here.

Now, get the small 2-pin wire. Split the wires on the ends before stripping it. Add a bit of solder on every end. Solder it to the thermistor (with the white silicone wires)

Next, get two binders and fixate the cable as shown:

Do the same on the X idler. You can also use two binders to keep both calbes together.

There are two holes on the middle of the case. Use this to mount the cables on. Be sure it can travel the whole Y axis before tightening it.

Note: On the picture we have not installed the X MAX endstop. You should wait until you installed this one before binding the cables here.

Insert the pins of the small 2-pin cable to the temperature sensor board on the Mega Shield. Origentation does not matter.
